Butrint guide

Where to eat near Butrint — a beachfront stop in Ksamil

Butrint is one of Albania's UNESCO sites — and one of the most rewarding archaeological parks in the Mediterranean. After a few hours of walking the ruins, most visitors want a sea breeze, cold water and a real lunch. Summer Gate is ten minutes north.

Distance from Butrint

  • From Butrint National Park entrance: ~7 km / 10–12 minutes by car.
  • From the Vivari ferry: ~6 km / 10 minutes.
  • From Ksamil village centre: ~5 minutes on the coast road.

Why this works after Butrint

You arrive hot, hungry and ready for water. Summer Gate sits directly on the Ksamil shore, with reed umbrellas, sunbeds and a freshwater rinse. The kitchen serves until 23:00, so a late lunch after the park is easy. The Butrint mussels we serve come from the same lagoon you've just walked around — steamed with white wine, parsley and bread for the broth.

A good Butrint + Ksamil day

  1. Early — visit Butrint before the heat (08:30 opening).
  2. 13:00 — drive to Summer Gate, swim, lunch on the deck.
  3. 15:00 — sunbeds, espresso, a quiet read.
  4. 20:30 — sunset dinner over the Ionian.
